Precare for Permanent Makeup/Micropigmentation/Cosmetic Tattooing
It's important to prepare properly to ensure the best possible results and to minimize any risks of complications.
Here are some general precare instructions you might consider:
Avoid Blood Thinners
Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, or other NSAIDs for pain relief 24-48 hours before your appointment.
Avoid alcohol 24-48 hours before your appointment and caffeine on the day of the procedure, as they can increase bleeding.
Cosmetic Procedures
Do not undergo chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or other facial treatments two weeks prior to your appointment.
Avoid getting botox or dermal fillers for two weeks before your appointment.
Makeup and Skincare
Arrive at your appointment with no makeup on the area to be treated.
Hair Removal
Do not pick, tweeze, wax, thread, or perform electrolysis one week before your appointment to avoid skin irritation.
Skin Care
Do not tan two weeks before your appointment or have sunburned skin.
Avoid any tanning and intense sun exposure that can lead to sunburns two weeks prior to your procedure.
Do not apply Retin-A, AHA (glycolic, lactic acids), or undergo exfoliating treatments at least two weeks before the procedure.
Schedule Considerations
Plan your procedure when you do not have social, work, or travel commitments immediately after, as there may be visible healing.
Hydration
Stay hydrated leading up to the procedure as it helps with the healing process.
Following these guidelines can help enhance the outcome of your PMU procedure and aid in a smoother recovery. Always follow the specific instructions given by your PMU Artist, as they may have particular requirements based on their technique and your skin type.
Aftercare for Permanent Makeup/Micropigmentation/Cosmetic Tattooing
How well you take care of the procedure area over the next 7-14 days will determine the final appearance and longevity of your PMU. The healing period is 7-14 days, but please note it will take 30 days for the procedure area to fully heal.
Before Bed.
Clean your brows every night. Gently pat them with a damp cotton pad to remove the buildup of aftercare gel.
Do not touch the healing pigmented area with your fingers, as they may have bacteria that can cause an infection.
Avoid showering for the first 24 hours. When showering or bathing during the healing period, apply a thick layer of aftercare gel to create a barrier and avoid putting the procedure area directly in the water stream. Continue this regimen until the procedure area has completely healed.
Day 1.
Dab the area every hour with a clean tissue. This is to absorb lymph fluid on the surface and to prevent scabbing.
For 7-14 days post-procedure and after all touch-ups, avoid make-up, tinting brows or lashes, excess sweating, facials, sun, soap, sauna, jacuzzi, swimming in chlorine pools or recreational bodies of water, contact with animals, and gardening until the area is completely healed.
Avoid Botox for 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks following your appointment. Additionally, avoid laser treatments around the procedure area as they may alter the color and lighten the pigment. If you are considering facial plastic surgery, ensure you are fully healed before your appointment.
Do not pick, rub, or traumatize the procedure area while it is healing, as this may remove pigment along with crusting tissue.
After the procedure area has healed, use a “total sunblock” to prevent future fading of pigment color when exposed to the sun.
Day 2-14.
Apply aftercare gel 2-3 times a day until the procedure has healed. Always use a clean cotton swab and not your fingertips.
• Do not use products that contain AHA’s on the procedure area. Example: Glycolic, lactic acids. Always check your product labeling. These products will fade your pigment colour.
• Similar to traditional tattoos, it is normal to experience some loss of pigment during the healing period. Please take precautions to protect light coloured linens and towels. The pigment is expected to be darker for the first 2 - 5 days after your appointment. Don’t panic! They will lighten and change every day during the healing period.
• After the initial healing period and once any flakes have fallen off, a shiny layer of healing skin will completely cover the hair strokes which will make it seem as though the tattooed area has completely disappeared. Within 1 - 2 weeks, 40 - 60% of the pigment will slowly reappear at a lighter shade as your skin regenerates.
• If you experience any itching, swelling, blistering or any other complications post procedure, stop using the aftercare product and call your technician immediately. You may be allergic to the product you are using. Failure to follow these instructions may result in pigment colour loss. All permanent make-up procedures are a two-step process. Your touchup appointment should be booked 5-8 weeks after your initial appointment.
